NFL Playoff Rankings

I hate the BCS rankings and think college football should have a playoff in which each conference is represented but the college rankings (and a Mike and Mike segment) gave me this idea. What if the 12 teams that made it into the NFL playoffs got in based on rankings? Who would make it in? Would two AFC teams be given the 1-2 seeds which would give that conference a chance to be represented twice in the Super Bowl? I don’t think this should ever happen in real life, but it’s it a good hypothetical and a good way to ignore the NFC West.

1. New England (11-0) – Can’t argue against an unbeaten team that has beaten down nearly every opponent to a pulp.
2. Dallas (11-1) – As much as I hate to admit, Dallas has been putting on an offensive show and the only team they have lost to is New England. Just beat Green Bay to prove they are the best in the NFC
3. Green Bay (10-2) – They stayed in the game even without Brett Favre. This team is better than they look.
4. Indianapolis (9-2) – Indy is so talented, when everyone gets healthy they will contend for the Super Bowl.
5. Jacksonville (8-3) – I didn’t think the Jags were that good but look at who’ve they’ve lost to and who’ve they beat. They lost to the Colts, Saints, and Titans. They’ve beaten Bucs, Titans, and Chargers. Three wins in a row against the AFC is pretty good.
6. Pittsburgh (8-3) – They would have been ranked much higher except for the fact that two of their losses came against horrible teams – the Cardinals and the Jets. Oh and I don’t care how bad the field was you have to beat Miami by more than one field goal.
7. New York Giants (7-4) – Their two back-to-back losses at the beginning of the season don’t look so bad now that we know how good the Packers and Cowboys are. Getting blown out by Minnesota at home though does look bad.
8. Cleveland (7-4) –You’re probably thinking Cleveland? Cleveland? Yes they lost to the Raiders early in the season, but they seem to have hit their groove since. They beaten they Ravens twice, and beat the next team in my rankings. They’ve been winning in a lot of close games as well. Jamal Lewis almost looks like Jamal Lewis and this Derek Anderson guy makes me wonder what’s so great about Brady Quinn. And Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are finally living up to their hype.
9. Seattle (7-4) – Yep, still only 9th. They’ve won three in a row. Against the Niners, Bears, and Rams. Ohh, impressive.
10. Tampa Bay (7-4) – It’s a bit surprising how good this team is this year. In fact their losses came against better teams than the Seahawks’ did. But the Seahawks did beat them way back in week 1.
11. San Diego (6-5) – Not gonna be here long probably. But they’ve gone 5-2 since Week 5 though and beat the Colts along the way.
12. Detroit (6-5) – Their record is the only thing keeping them on this list. The fact that the Eagles and the Redskins, two .500 teams, both killed them makes me think that the Lions will fall off at the end of the year. Their last six games include Green Bay twice, Dallas, San Diego, and Minnesota.
